The Giant Despair

Ever read The Pilgrim's Progress? It's a pretty good allegory of various parts in the Christian walk. Been struggling through some things myself, and these thoughts occured to me this evening:
Despair and discouragement are luxuries -it's easy to just fall into them and feel the odd relief of letting them leave us immobilized. But it is really relief? Can we really just wallow in it and choose not to act on what we know is true? To get up and stand on all that is left to us: God's promises that ring true with every word. In the end that is really what matters and all that matters. God has proven Himself to be faithful and trustworthy, are we gonna stake everything we hold dear on that fact? Given what we know and have received we can not but choose to act - to stir ourselves to take hold of the Lord (Is 64:7). It requires resolve, the hardening of our will against our flesh which would like to just curl up in a ball. But in the end it's worth it, and we have hope.
"May the God of all hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him" Rom 15:13
