Apple what?

In 5th and 6th grade I attended a well-known Christian club. I appreciated their emphasis on Bible memorization. A few things I wished were done different, but over all I think it's a good thing. Each club is probably has it's unique characteristics. We'd have a time of singing and devotions (like many clubs). One song made I wasn't too sure about, and after a while I wouldn't sing it. It had a catchy tune and I still remember it. Asyou read the simple chorus, can you see why I might be uncomfortable?
Apple-red happiness
Popcorn cheerfulness
Cinnamon singin' inside
Peppermint energy
Gumdrop holidays
When you give Christ your life
Can't help but wonder if this is the epitome of th "social Gospel" people talk about. The Christian walk is anything but easy and sugar-wonderful. Yes, we have joy and a relationship with Christ but there are lots of difficulties that would make one who believed the above lines to stop and turn around. It just doesn't fit.
